Easy Remote Access: Work the Cybertary Way

At Cybertary, it’s critical that we be able to take our work with us. After all, this is how Cybertaries do business. Sure, we are able to keep flexible hours, but that also means we sometimes conduct our work from a client’s office or a quiet cafe, along the soccer field, or from the road. Remote access tools allow you to work on documents as if you were sitting at your PC in your home office, or even at your client’s PC, without actually having to be there. Now these are tools many small businesses can utilize for more flexibility as well!
There are many different remote access tools available-each with their own pros and cons. The following is a short list of available remote access products recommended by Cybertary:

  • LogMeIn:
Also, a monthly or annual subscription-based service, LogMeIn allows you to remotely access your computer from any other Internet-connected computer in the world via a 256-bit SSL-encrypted, double-password secure connection. LogMeIn offers a “free” version that meets most remote access needs. Their paid version allows for remote printing, remote file transfer, file sharing and file syncing.
  • Citrix GoToMyPC®:
This monthly or annual subscription-based service allows you to remotely access your computer from any other Internet-connected computer in the world via a secure, private connection. GoToMyPC offers a 24-bit true-to-life, full-color view of your desktop-perfect for looking at pictures and reviewing design work. It also allows you to adjust the speed and screen appearance to get the performance that best suits your needs.
  • pcAnywhereTM:
A one-time software purchase that enables simple, secure connection to remote devices with encryption and password protection. PCAnywhere can also be set up for cross-patform (Mac to PC or PC to Mac) remote access.
  • Windows Remote Desktop Connection:
Included with Windows XP Professional, this utility enables you to connect to your computer across the Internet from virtually any computer. Both computers must be connected to the Internet through a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection, which requires some custom setup. Note: If you’re not connecting to the host computer through a VPN, you will need to use the actual IP address of the host computer instead of the computer name.
  • mail2web.com®:
If you need to access your email while on the go, mail2web.com offers free, secure and anonymous email retrieval from almost any POP3 or IMAP4 email server. No registration is required.
Installation and Access:
Most of our recommendations are easy-to-install, easy-to-access, web-based solutions that require no software or hardware to purchase. Simply sign up through the product web site, and then use your computer, User ID and password to access the tools after that.
Remote access tools will open a whole new avenue of capabilities to your business. You will be able to work more flexibly and have the access you need at your fingertips at all times.
